Showed another recruit around today and I ate lunch with him, Coach Pini, and Coach Johnson. Then I passed him off two of my teammates Byan Hockaday and Billy Beddow.

#12

This past week I have been helping Coach Pini and Coach Johnson with showing recruits  around campus and talking to them about the program. This past week I showed a kid from Florida around and a kid from Terry Sanford here in Fayetteville. As well as helping them with that I have been overseeing study hall and making sure all of my teammates are getting there hours for studying in. I believe within the month or so I will be attending a camp with Coach Pini and talking to possible recruits.

This past week I have been overseeing Study Hall for players both Varsity and JV. I am responsible for holding all players accountable for their academics. I have also been continuing to put information into envelopes about the program to possible recruits and I have also put information together for the summer camps to help the coaching staff out while they tend to other more important tasks.

I have been slacking with the update but since I have not been updating this one is going to relatively long. So before the 1st home conference I showed a recruit around campus; took him through the Bern's, showed Nimocks, and showed him a typical dorm room before the game. At the game I charted charges, deflections, offensive rebounds, and defensive rebounds. We lost by 4 that night so our season was over. But since then I have broken down the film and pointed out to Coach Pini some things we need to work on for next season. I also have been putting information into envelopes for potential recruits. So I have been busy just have had any time to update the blog. Sorry about that.

Yesterday's game I was very busy. I started off showing a recruit around the campus such as showing him the dorm's, the apartment's, the cafeteria, the student center, and then finally the gym where I gave him to the coaching staff before the game. At the game I charted deflections, dives, dives + possessions, and charges. It was also Senior night and we sent out Seniors: Paul & Claude Bernard, Travis Fulp, and Marc Slade out with a 14 point win over rival Greensboro College.

At today's practice I basically ran the clock because there was nothing that I had to do as far as breakdown film, help out with the drills, or rebounding for drills. Kinda relaxing practice since I just did the clock.

I did not attend practice tonight from 6-8 pm but I did help with workouts at 4 o'clock. I helped Coach Pini and Assistant Coach Justin Johnson, we set the gun which is an automatic rebounder and it shoots the ball out to you for them to get shots up on. We also did some ball handling drills when they were waiting there turn to shoot. Blake Lanier, Tyler Deal, Steve Kerr, and Kyle Combs were the 4 who I worked with today. I learned today in the workouts that if your shot is not falling that one little tweak whether it is more elevation, more ark, or following through.

During yesterday's practice I broke down my first game as a part of the coaching staff. I broke down the final game of the JV season against UNC JV. The categories I broke down were FGA, FGM, FTA, FTM, Asst, Rebounds (Off & Def), Steals, Blocks, Turnovers. We shot 54.6 % from the field but lost by 10 in the end.

In today's practice I did more observing then charting I helped again with the scouting report and knowing what the other teams best player does along with the role players for Greensboro College. Another thing that I found interesting about coaching today was the fact that you need players who will voice their opinion when they think the team is not preforming to the best of there abilities and then their are players who lead by example.

In yesterday's practice I charted missed free throws in drills, missed lay-ups, and turnovers in all of the drills. I also helped out with the scouting report for the upcoming game against Greensboro College. Something that I learned today is that you have to communicate in various ways to certain types of players because some players respond better to being yelled at whereas some players do better with being pulled aside and tell them what they are doing wrong.

#3

Today in the game against Christopher Newport University, I charted deflections, charges taken, turnovers for each player, and personal fouls for each player in a 3 point loss to CNU. Today I learned you have to be very versatile as college coach whether it is charting certain aspects of the game or motivating your team when your down by 4 with a minute left to go in the game.

#2

On Thursday's practice I charted dropped passes, turnovers, and missed lay-ups throughout many of the drills. I also had to help Coach Pini out with the 2nd team because they had 2 players go out because of injuries. So I had to do the fast break drill with Claude Bernard.

Coaching Internship #1

Today I am going to meet with our Men's Basketball Assistant Coach Justin Pini to set my hours and get some information on what all I will be doing throughout the semester. Meeting with him at 4:45 before practice hope goes well.
